Lifetime Replacement Plan on Mallet Heads?

Take a look at the write up for EIGHTHINCH mallet heads:

$5 replacement plan: New or old, our mallet heads are covered by a $5 replacement plan. Send your damaged or worn out EighthInch mallet head back to us along with $5 to cover outgoing shipping and we’ll send you a new mallet head for free. International customers can warranty their mallet heads through their local EighthInch dealer.

Is everyone reading that correctly? Buy a mallet head – about ten bucks for the older model- and when it wears out, send it back with 5 bucks. They’ll replace it.

Forever. What do we think of this? Personally, I think it’s not that great a deal – given the shipping cost and what not – but it’s pretty cool that a company is thinking long term about polo, yes?

If their mallet heads were half decent, it would be a good deal.. but considering I’d have to spend $27 (going ebay price) for the mallet in the first place, then probably $3 for return shipping, along with the $5 replacement fee… i’m out $35 bucks. Not such a great deal unless you’re in love with their mallet.

$27 bucks for the mallet head or the mallet head and shaft? Mallet heads are only $10 bucks on the actual eightinch site.

      • Brett says:

True, but their head is really made to only fit with their specific shaft. Not saying you couldn’t make it work on a ski pole or another company’s shaft, just a bit harder.

good deal. slightly put off by the overly slick design but i guess that’s the way things are going.

Au contraire! Eighth Inch is starting to ramp up a new ‘pro’ model, and it’s actually going in the other direction — more like a basic piece of gas pipe:
    Less is more, I guess.
